Seven Reasons Why You Should Travel to Disney World Solo in Fall 2024

Fall is an awesome time to visit Disney World, especially solo! Here are seven reasons why fall generally, and fall 2024 specifically, could be the perfect time to plan a solo trip to the most magical place on earth.

As discussed in the Solo Magic podcast, there are two general reasons, three specific reasons, and two bonus reasons why this fall is a great time to travel to Disney World solo.

Two General Reasons to Visit Disney World in the Fall

1. The Weather

Fall weather in Florida can be more pleasant compared to the scorching summer months. The intense heat of summer subsides, and although hurricane season runs into October and November, the chances of encountering severe weather decrease as the season progresses. Even if a tropical storm or hurricane hits, Disney is well-prepared (and you should be too), and your solo trip can still be enjoyable.

2. Lighter Crowds

With kids back in school and families waiting for a Thanksgiving or Christmas trip, September and October tend to see fewer visitors - and you might love this if you're travelling by yourself! Disney has tried to counteract this period of lower crowds by extending Halloween festivities, but generally the Parks are still less crowded compared to peak summer months and you may find it easier to get a specialty dining reservation for one as a result.

Three Specific Reasons to Visit Disney World This Fall

1. Tiana’s Bayou Adventure

The first reason to visit Disney World this fall is the opening of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure! Scheduled to debut at the end of June, the initial rush will have settled by the fall, which (hopefully!) make it easier to ride it as a solo. There is no expectation that there will be a single-rider line for this ride or what the queue will be like once the ride is fully operational, but by the fall there will be fewer people (and less technical issues!) for you to join this "joyful celebration"! Perhaps a new LoungeFly is in order (Amazon affiliate link)!

Also, note that Country Bear Jamboree will be reopening at Magic Kingdom and Rock 'n' Roller Coaster Starring Aerosmith will be reopening this summer at Hollywood Studios (and it has a single-rider line!). Check the Calendar for more specific dates about other opening or reopening dates this fall. If you're nostalgic for the original version of Country Bears, you may be interested in these 50th Anniversary commemorative plushes (Amazon affiliate link).

2. Epcot's Food and Wine Festival

Epcot's Food and Wine Festival is one of the four food festivals that Epcot hosts every year. While it is usually my least favourite festival, because the festival this year will be shorter, I think it will have more innovative foods and programming and it will be a stronger festival than in previous years! Plus, the new CommuniCore Hall, which is designed to support the festivals, will be fully operational by the fall, suggesting we’ll get full Food and Wine programming that we haven’t seen since before COVID. I can't wait to go solo to this year's festival - and you could check it out this year too!

The Epcot's Food and Wine Festival runs from August 29 to November 23rd, 2024. I recommend bringing a small tray with you (Amazon affiliate link). I got one for the last festival and it was a game changer for solo travel!

3. Halloween Celebrations

Halloween at Disney World is so fun, and it starts early: August 9th! While it might seem premature, the festivities are worth the early start. From themed decorations at Magic Kingdom to special treats and snacks throughout the Resort, Disney goes all out for Halloween. Decorations and (some) special eats will be available for all guests without any additional tickets; however it is unclear if all those decorations and Halloween treats starting on August 9th. So, if you want to ensure you are able to enjoy all that Halloween has to offer, a trip later in the fall would be a better bet than in August. Make sure you stay updated to this blog and Disney marketing for updates.

If you have the budget to add something extra to your solo trip, Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party is an event you shouldn’t miss! With special parades, stage shows, fireworks, and character appearances, it’s a fun-filled and not-so-scary evening that is perfect for solo travelers. This specialty ticketed party offers a unique chance to see Disney in a different light, with fewer crowds and a spooky, festive atmosphere and you should not hesitate to go to it solo. There will be a podcast episode and blog post specifically about going to this party solo that will be posted in the fall. Check out the calendar for a full list of party dates.

Two Extra Bonus Reasons to Visit Disney World in the Fall

1. Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend

Although the actual race events are sold out, the runDisney Wine & Dine Half-Marathon Weekend that happens between October 31 to November 3rd offers more than just running. There’s an expo with exclusive merchandise and a post-race party at Epcot on November 3rd. The post-race party, accessible to anyone with a ticket, allows entry into Epcot from 5 PM, with festivities running until midnight. Even if you’re not participating in the races, the energy and excitement of this weekend make it a great time to visit, and you may love that excited adult-energy during your solo trip!

2. Thanksgiving

Maybe your Thanksgiving plans involve less family and more self care. Disney, anyone?!

The offical planDisney blog has created a list of Thanksgiving activities and meals you may want to enjoy while spending time with yourself on Thanksgiving. And look! The Solo Magic podcast got a shout out!

Conclusion

Fall typically brings milder weather and smaller crowds compared to the peak summer months. This makes exploring the parks more comfortable and enjoyable. Plus, with Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, Epcot’s Food and Wine Festival, and the Halloween celebrations, fall is a fantastic time to visit Disney World. Add in the excitement of the Wine & Dine Half Marathon Weekend and yummy Thanksgiving offerings, and you have the perfect recipe for a memorable solo trip.
